CFR Title 29, Part 1910 (OSHA) Section 157,
Paragraph g. Training and Education States:
1. Where the employer has provided portable
fire extinguishers for employee use in the
workplace, the employer shall also provide
an educational program to familiarize their
employees with general principles of fire
extinguisher use and the hazards involved
with incipient stage fire fighting.
2. The employer shall provide the education
required in paragraph (g) (1) of this section
upon initial employment and at least annually thereafter.
Ideally, your training should include both an
inside classroom training session and outside
hands on practice with an actual controlled fire.
The “live” fire training provides employees with a
realistic and memorable experience using a
portable fire extinguisher.
Proper use of a portable fire extinguisher can
save a life, prevent the spread of fire, and even
extinguish a fire within the first 30-45 seconds.

overall production due to a fire
